Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information SelfLore ("we", "us") collects, why, and what choices you have. We try to collect as little as we need to give you your reading and run the Service. The data controller is the operator of SelfLore, available at support@selflore.me.

1. What we collect

  • Birth and profile details you enter — your birth date, first name or nickname, and the quiz answers you choose (such as the life themes you want to focus on). Your numbers are calculated from these.
  • Contact details — your email address, used to deliver your reading, sign you in, and send service messages.
  • If you sign in with Google — your name, email address, and basic profile from your Google account.
  • Account and subscription data — sign-in method, subscription status, and billing dates. Payments are processed by Creem; we do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Usage and device data — basic analytics about how the site is used, IP address, and, where you consent, advertising attribution identifiers (for example click IDs passed in a link). These help us understand and improve our marketing.
  • Feedback you send us — if you use our feedback form or cancel a subscription, any rating, reason, or message you choose to share, together with the email address you give us (or your account email), so we can read it and follow up. This is always optional.

We treat your birth date and the personal reflections in your reading as sensitive to you, and handle them with care.

2. How we use your information

  • to calculate your numbers and generate, deliver, and store your readings;
  • to create and manage your account and subscription, and to provide support;
  • to send service emails (sign-in links, your reading, subscription confirmations and reminders);
  • to keep the Service secure and prevent fraud or abuse;
  • to read and respond to feedback and support requests, and to improve the Service;
  • to measure and improve the Service and, with your consent, our advertising.

3. Legal bases (for EU / UK / EEA users)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (to deliver the reading and run your subscription); your consent (for analytics and advertising cookies, which you can withdraw at any time); and our legitimate interests (to keep the Service secure and improve it).

4. Service providers we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the providers who help us run SelfLore, under appropriate safeguards and only as needed:

  • Anthropic (Claude AI) — turns your calculated numbers and chosen themes into the written prose of your reading. We send only the inputs needed to write it.
  • Resend — delivers our emails to you (sign-in links, readings, subscription notices).
  • Creem — processes your subscription payments and acts as merchant of record (the seller on record for the transaction); it collects your payment and billing details directly.
  • Google — Google Analytics (usage measurement) and ad-attribution, loaded only with your consent; Google Fonts (which may receive your IP address to serve fonts); and Google Sign-In, if you choose it.
  • Meta — the Meta Pixel and Conversions API (Facebook/Instagram) measure the results of our ads, loaded and sent only with your consent. We share a hashed (not plain) email and activity for matching; we never share your birth details, name, or reading.
  • Hetzner — our hosting provider (servers in the EU), which stores the data needed to run the Service (including encrypted off-site backups).
  • Sentry — error monitoring (EU region), so we can detect and fix faults. We scrub personal data (name, email, birth details) before any report is sent.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, our users, or the Service.

5. Cookies and consent

We use a small number of essential cookies to run the site. Analytics and advertising cookies load only after you allow them through our consent banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time, and your selection is remembered on your device.

6. International transfers

Some of our providers (for example Anthropic, Resend, Google and Meta) process data in the United States, while others (such as Hetzner) are in the EU. Where we transfer personal data outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK addendum, and the EU–US / UK / Swiss Data Privacy Framework where a provider is certified.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your account and readings while your account is active so you can return to them. If you delete your account, we delete your account, sign-in sessions, connected logins, and subscriptions. We may retain limited records where we are required to (for example billing or fraud-prevention records), and order records may be retained with your account link removed.

8. Your rights

You can edit your profile and delete your account in one step from your account settings, which erases your personal data as described above. For any other request, email support@selflore.me. We don't charge for requests or treat you differently for exercising them.

  • EU / UK / EEA (GDPR). You may access, correct, export (portability), delete, or restrict your data, and object to certain processing. You can withdraw consent at any time and may lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority — for example the Irish Data Protection Commission, or the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
  • United States (California and similar state laws). You may request to know, access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" — we do not sell or share your data for cross-context behavioral advertising, and our ad cookies are opt-in. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
  • Canada (PIPEDA). You may access and correct your personal information and may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
  • Australia (Privacy Act / APPs). You may access and correct your information and may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
  • New Zealand (Privacy Act 2020). You may access and correct your information and may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

9. Children

SelfLore is for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
